I grew up in the mountains in western Colorado in a cabin built by my family. My childhood home was built using almost all natural resources from the area. Many sustainable design principles were used in the construction. Our only source of power was the sun and we heated and cooked with wood gathered from our property. While this is not a life style that most people would choose, it did have an impact on the way that I think about building. There is an ingenuity and resourcefulness that is brought out in people in demanding situations. The Rocky Mountains in the dead of winter with no paved roads, running water, or power grid can certainly be a demanding situation.
Throughout my childhood and teen years I picked up a wide range of mechanical and carpentry skills. This learning continued as I began to work in the construction and woodworking industry. I sought out positions where I could be involved in every aspect of the industry so that I could develop a comprehensive understanding of each piece of the remodeling puzzle.
In 2007 I felt it was time to bring together the skills that I had acquired, and thus Portland Tradesmen was born. In hindsight 2007 may not have been the ideal time to start a construction business. However thanks to many loyal supporters I managed to weather the storm. On top of that I’m now stocked up on hardship stories for tomorrows' youth to roll their eyes at.
Outside of work I’m a musician, non-fiction junky, Portland loyalist and best of all husband to a truly exceptional wife.
Thank you for taking an interest in my business.
Sincerely,
Jesse Pender
