In my last blog I introduced some of my favorite websites for gathering design inspiration. Wouldn’t it be simply ingenious to create a site where design seekers, lovers of all things beautiful and homeowners with a remodel in mind could catalogue the various images found around the web for later reference? Well I didn’t invent it, but I adore it, Pinterest! This site is so simple to use and allows you to create “pin-boards” with various titles. Some of mine include: Home Décor I Find Stylish, Rooms I Adore & Outdoor Spaces. Others create more specific boards like: Living Rooms, Kitchens & lighting.
Recently, as Jesse and I were dreaming up a new dining room pendant light, I took note of ideas found online by pinning each time I stumbled on something I liked. Then, when we were ready to purchase, I popped over to Pinterest and looked through my pins for inspiration as well as searched the site for the pendent lights other pinning fans had catalogued. Once you get pinning, you can “follow” other people’s boards and re-pin what they have found, multiplying your access to inspiration.
If you watch much design oriented television, then perhaps like me, you find yourself enchanted by the design boards the designers create by pulling together and arranging photos of potential furniture pieces, torn out magazine pages, paint chips, window treatments swatches. With Pinterest, this creation becomes a process of placing items together on a virtual board.
I’ve recently started a Portland Tradesmen Pinterest page for interested, future pinners to check out. I’ve organized all the design inspiration photos into boards that echo Jesse’s five design types as well as eco friendly options and smart budget choices.
