Kristen’s Design Idea Picks

Times have changed. In years gone by I scoured the net, laboriously searching for headboard photos, living room layout ideas, Moroccan throw rugs and credenzas without much luck. Now it’s all I can do to keep my feet on the ground in the fury of surfing the abundance of design blogs and online décor magazines.

So, I’m not sure it it’s fair to consider pouring over design blogs a hobby, since it could very well fall into the category of my favorite indulgences. Either way, it’s a sweet little luxury to perch here in the window of Albina press, selecting some of my favorite sources for design inspiration to share.

Design Sponge was my first find and remains one of my favorite design blogs. Check out the sneak peaks for a foot inside the front door of beautifully designed and decorated homes around the world. The product guide tab leads to fun and useful roundups of home décor and furnishings.

Bliss Blog serves up like a just-right-bite of desert each day and it’s a must mention, especially since Mrs. French, the blog’s author, lives here in Portland. Each Tuesday she treats us to an entry she calls “my happy place,” a collection of photos from a beautifully designed space.

Most any web search for interior design will present you with multiple Apartment Therapy links and that’s because one could spend an entire day popping here and there, all through this site. Along with drool worthy house tours, Apartment Therapy has added a green dimension to their offerings, re-nest: abundant design for green homes.

My heart is aflutter over design resource, Lonny Magazine. When I first stumbled into the pretty pages of this online mag I finally got, in a gut sense kind of way, how cool technology really is. Sounds overly dramatic, I realize, but I actually remember my first wide eyed reading. I’m accustomed to turning down the corners on paper design magazines, saving my spot with a plan to return and web search all of my fancy findings. But no no, not any longer. Nearly everything found in Lonny and sites like it contains a link. Simply click on that gorgeous Chesterfield sofa pic and vuala, your screen skips to the purchasing site, inviting your upholstery selection for the living room of your dreams.

This list marks the beginning. If you find yourself hooked as I have, follow the links contained within each of  the above sites for a wide range of design inspiration. Happy hunting my fellow design lovers!
